It's a good thing we don't care about style points, because that one was pretty gnarly.
10 penalties for 107 yards, including this mess...
I think Chris Kemoeatu had like four holding penalties by himself (not that there was a whole lot else he could do about it with Kyle Williams abusing him up and down the field).
Manny Sanders dropped a (more or less) sure TD pass in the 4th quarter.
Injuries to Bryant McFadden, Nick Eason, and even Big Ben had/has a foot sprain.
But there are no two ways about it, Shaun Suisham was in hero mode today.
Four field goals for the Canuck, from 41, 45, 46, and 48 yards.
And even though it took 73 minutes, the Steelers brought home a win, 19-16.
Yes, they were facing a 2-8 (now 2-9) team, but like I said in the preview, the three games the Bills have lost since their bye week were all decided by three points, two in OT, and all of the teams they have lost to this season are either division leaders or playoff contenders with substantial records.
Would I have been beside myself if the Steelers had lost this game? Maybe a little bit, but don't start thinking the Steelers deserve to beat teams based on record or reputation. It doesn't work like that in the NFL, in case you hadn't noticed.
And if you're salty after a win, just stop watching football.
Seriously.
Other preliminary notes for you...
Troy Polamalu is a monster.
36 rushes, 151 yards, and a score. Forget about the fumble, Spindenhall's legs were pumping today, and he had almost half the yards on that final drive in OT. No way they win this game without him.
Captain 3rd (1st?) Down is back.
Now...
8-3, headed to Baltimore next Sunday night.
Get ready...
This is war.
Full recap to come...in the meantime, feel free to leave all of your preliminary musings in the comments.
If you haven't already, become a fan of OFTOT on Facebook, and follow Cotter on Twitter. Or don't. Your choice, really.
That Sander's drop may or may not have resulted in a TD, but it would have been a first down and iced the game in regulation. And how do the Bills go the whole game with 0 holding calls on their OL?
I hate people bitching after wins.

- I'll take it..
After the game ended I seriously needed some time to figure out how exactly the Steelers won this one. I came to the conclusion that the good teams find a way to win and the bad ones find a way to lose. Both happened in this case.
Regardless, coach LeBeau absolutely has to find a scheme to work against a "spread them out offense". If not, even if they make the playoffs as expected, they will be out quickly as soon as they face a team with a good QB (New England, Indy, San Diego). A little concerned that they may not have the personnel at DB to be effective regardless (i.e. Keenan Lewis!?) If McFadden is out for an extended period that isn't going to help either.
Overall, I'll take the win, but definitely critical opportunities for improvement exist.

- Well, then..
Certainly a win's a win. I'm convinced that Johnson's drop wouldn't have happened if the ball wasn't perfectly thrown, as he would have had to concentrate just a little more. That said, here's the 3 phase scoop:
Offense: Wreckingball does it again. How big was Moore in third downs? How big was Ben on third downs? 12-19 overall, but at one point we were 8-12. I'll take that any day. Sanders needs to stop dropping balls, but he's a rook and he's not Limas Sweed, so there's hope for the future. And he can return kicks. Hines looked awesome going back to retro form (as if he ever left). O-line however, despite its patchworkiness, is headin on the road to nowhere. R-berger was getting abused all game, but that did lead to many of his runs for first down, but also resulted in a sprained ankle. Hopefully, he'll be ready for the Deathbird game. Hopefully they'll come together soon, as Ngata won't be effin 'round. 2nd half offense needs to get going. Pretty please?
Defense: Despite letting the Bills get back into the game, they played a decent game, getting some key turnovers, and keeping the yardage low and stuff. Something has to be done with that secondary, but if Fitzpatrick has enough time to book golf outings back there, any defense can be thrown upon. There has to be more pressure up there. To quote Remember the Titans: "We blitz allll night!". Please LeBeau, I trust you. All this being said, they had some pretty nice stops on the drives in OT to keep us in the game. I'll take it.
Harrison said it best when he said (and I paraphrase) that the refs are afraid to not call it, so they do. That was a textbook tackle. Idk what he has to do anymore. I never like to blame refs for things, but this is ridiculous. Stop sucking refs, let them play the game.
ST: Shaun. Suisham. Now we know that he can make FGs, so that's a huge uplift. Now we have to not get in that position. I like Xtra Points better. Sepulveda was a beast, with that last punt going a pretty fair distance so the D could do its work.
