You Can't Always Get What You Want... E-mail

The Rolling Stones pretty much said it all.

2009 was a good run.

We Steeler fans want the team to win a Super Bowl every season.

But frankly, if you could will a team to a championship, it wouldn't ever even be a contest.

This season, the Steelers had plenty of downs to go with the ups.

But the bottom line was...it just wasn't enough.

Over the last decade the Steelers went 103-56 (with Big Ben at the helm they went 65-31).

That's almost twice as many good times as bad.

Eight winning seasons, six playoff appearances, four AFC Championship game appearances and two lombardis (in the last 10 seasons).

Not too shabby if you ask me.

So when you look back at the 2009 season and the last decade, try not to cry too much.

This season may be over for the black and gold, but next year's a whole new ball game.

Here's to a stronger and better 2010!

Thank you all for your support this season.

Steve and I very much appreciate your continued patronage in spite of our idiocy (and our overabundance of poor pop culture references and dick jokes).

Full recap to come tomorrow.

For the final time this season, feel free to deposit your initial thoughts in the comments.

If you haven't already, become a fan of OFTOT on Facebook, join the blog network and follow Cotter and Steve on Twitter. Or don't. Your choice, really.

I took my son, nephew and father in-law to the game today and let me tell you, it was over half Steeler Fans! What a great turn-out for a potential tide changer. We had to do our part and we did. Congrats to the Steelers for finishing like true winners. Cant wait till next year and by the way, GREAT JOB OFTOT!

Good game yesterday. I'll be interested to see the changes that are to come this offseason.

Bryant McFadden's little brother, Walter, played a pretty decent game in the Outback bowl. While a shorter CB (only 6'0";), he had decent hands. That, or Kafka just really blew it that day. Either way - I'd like to see us pick up a guy like him.

Nice to see Taylor, Clark, and Deshea get a few picks yesterday. Would have been nice to see that in some earlier games, but then again - I'm a turd.

There's no reason for that wink, btw... I had a typo. He's really only 6 feet.

I throw this season in the garbage. This team is too good to not be in the playoffs - that being said, one game keeps us out two keeps us from division winners - two kicks (Reed) and one drop (Sweed). The margin for victory is so slim in the NFL. I'm the biggest Sweed supporter but even I know if he doesn't at least have a decent season for the Steelers next year the kid is done. Hopefully he'll wake up - that will make the offense even more explosive. Hopefully the Steelers will draft another Safety who will be a decent back up to clark and can fill in if Troy goes down. Hopefully our young CBs can develop to replace William Gay so we only see him when there are 4 CBs on the field. Hopefully we draft a stud ILB who can fill in for Farrior on 3rd downs. HOpefully the O-line continues to improve and Hampton is signed. This would make for a better 2010 season. Thats all i wanna think about now. Heck maybe - if he keeps his job - BA will be more creative next year which will lead to more red zone TDs. Now time to turn attention to the Draft. Here we go Steelers Here we go.
