Braylon Edwards, We Salute You... E-mail
Written by Cotter

Not since Cliff Lee has an athlete done something so criminal to the Cleveland fanbase.

You's a dick, dude.

And we love it.

Look who remembered how to catch!

Revenge city.

Well, you probably wouldn't have been wrong either way, haha.

When you trade a good player and he goes to his new team and is still good is that really revenge?

Braylon was a distraction and was never going to re-sign in Cleveland after this season. He complained about being in Cleveland since the day he was drafted. Instead of letting him walk, the Browns got 2 decent players, a 3rd round pick and a 5th round pick. As of right now the Browns have 11 draft picks to work in April not to mention no divas like Braylon and Winslow to deal with.

I expect the number of picks to keep growing with more trades on the horizon (Quinn, anyone?)

P.S. These players were traded because other team's had a bigger need for them and were willing to give decent value in return, not because we gave up on them.

When you trade a good receiver who couldn't catch a cold for one team and all of a sudden doesn't see a pass he can't catch for his new team, I'd say revenge is at play.

But regardless, we really don't care. We were just making light of the situation in general.

And yes, we know why these players were traded. That doesn't make the results any less interesting.

"When you trade a good receiver who couldn't catch a cold for one team and all of a sudden doesn't see a pass he can't catch for his new team, I'd say revenge is at play."

Also at play should be the assumption that he may have been tanking it...

Braylon led the league in drops last season so his reputation is clearly at stake with the Jets. The Browns basically said look, you're not re-signing here anyway so we're trading you. There's no revenge factor in my opinion. Braylon's focus is always on himself. He's not out for revenge, he's out to prove that he's worth a huge contract in the offseason. He checked out in Cleveland sometime after week one last season and was never the same. How many divas like Braylon are there in the AFC North? This is a blue-collar division, not the place for a me-first Hollywood type.

I know it's fun to poke fun at the Browns in as many ways as possible but it just doesn't make sense to think that Braylon's success will be disheartening to Browns fans. Same with Cliff Lee. I'm happy for both to be able to move on and find success. The Browns and Indians are clearly re-building, so why not?

Honestly, man, I commend you on your happiness for your team's former players and for being enough of a fan to defend your team.

As far as what you said about Braylon Edwards' performance being disheartening to Browns fans -- I'm glad you feel that your fellow Clevelanders wouldn't care.

But I can tell you, if he was tanking (which I thought I was implying in my last comment), and he was a Steeler, then he went off to another team for which he went back to being a premier receiver, you're damn right I'd be disheartened...because he "couldn't" do it for my team but suddenly could for someone else's.

Now, obviously I'm not you. Nor am I saying that you're wrong for not being disheartened.

As for revenge - I think if Braylon were stuck in a situation that he had clearly given up on, and finally got out of that situation, he might have some motivation to show the Browns what they could've had (if circumstances were better for him). You obviously disagree. Hooray diversity of opinion. And you're obviously a hell of a lot more of an expert on the Browns than I am.

That all said, why do you even care to debate this back and forth on a joke post from a STEELERS blog?

For some reason I find it interesting to see what other fans around the league have to say about our Browns. Once in a while I feel like I can add some insight.

The Browns know what they could have had in Braylon but remember - he blew it here, not us. His stone hands in 2008 cost the Browns a lot. Anderson lost his job, Romeo lost his job and the Browns are re-building again.

    Good debate.

For some reason I think the Browns will be competitive on Sunday. Now there's a debate!
