Just so everyone knows, despite reports, I didn\'t get fired from OFTOT. I have just been constructing my thesis in Zimbabwe leaving with Gorillas....

All Hail Arians!! Woooooooooo!

Disappointing is all I can say...only reason he stayed is b/c Ben loves him.

I guess I can expect more 5 WR formations on 3rd and short for a another year.

...no Super Bowl victory in 2010, either? Woolly crackers, man! I thought Tomlin was all about making \"appropriate\" changes. Or was that the \"unleash hell\" code for \"we\'ll bang our heads against the wall next season, too\"?

Yeah! Thank god! I for one am happy that Bruce will be staying! He knows and understands Ben all too well and Ben needs him!
Now Big Ben will thrive, as will our amazing corps of receivers!

I have no problem with this. I\'m not much of an Arians fan, but to be honest I didn\'t really get why they would fire him now. The offense wasn\'t the problem this year.

If I may get serious for a second here...

Obviously there are good arguments to be made both for firing BA and keeping him.

But equally as obvious is that proponents of each side refuse to be dissuaded.

And that\'s ok.

At the end of the day, I would hope that what we all want is for the Steelers to play well.

Now, you can choose to cry about this, or you can hope things change next year -- though I recognize the point that BA has already had three years and \"nothing has changed.\"

Last year, with a healthy defense we won it all with a less efficient offense.

Next year, we could have an even more efficient offense than this season AND a healthy defense.

Who knows what will happen from one year to the next in the NFL?

The point is - this is the Steelers decision. I trust them to know what\'s best for their team. So let\'s hope they do!!!

Now, Larry Zierlein...sorry man, but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rb7FgSzeGqg

I\'m with Cotter on this one. Everybody sitting in the stadium or at home thinks they can call the plays better. It\'s the nature of football; I\'ll trust the organization to do what is best.

It\'s not the idiotic formations (hell, I kind of like the 3-TE infamous \"Bunch Formation\") that piss me off, it\'s that when we get down to the goal-line, inside the 10, where EVERY OTHER TEAM IN THE NFL YOU CAN NEARLY EXPECT A TD, we come up lacking. Run-run-pass... fail. And you can\'t blame that lack of production (19th in the NFL overall in the redzone-- beneath the Bucs, ladies & gents) on merely the O-line or the D giving up big plays. That\'s all on the play calling and the ability to capitalize on the field position. Arians has no awareness. 3rd down and short is the same as 1st and 10 for him. If the run doesn\'t net at least 11 yards, he strays away from it and passes until Ben is either sacked 7 times, or the D gets a pick-6 on him. Who the hell cares if Ben puts up Drew Brees-like numbers? If we don\'t score, we don\'t win. That\'s a pretty simplistic formula.

To me, this simply signals that Tomlin isn\'t willing to take into account what the whole team needs, as opposed to what the QB wants, or what\'s easiest on everyone\'s psyche. If that were the case, I\'m certain he wouldn\'t have fired Porn King, because hey, HE was there when we won the XLII. Right?

This doesn\'t smack of solid decision making on the team\'s part. This smacks of looking PURELY at statistics and assuming that yardage-per-play or records are good enough to retain one\'s job. If that were the case, Jon Gruden and Mike Shanahan would still be with their respective teams.

Feeling So-So

Tomlin has made some coaching changes, and I\'m happy with them. As for Arians, I can\'t really say that I\'m distraught with the decision to keep him.

Back in the 90s--and durning the naughts--I can\'t tell you how many times I heard complaints from Steeler Nation about how we didn\'t throw the ball enough. While the Rams, Patriots and Colts had evolved, Pittsburgh was still stuck in the 1970s. Now, we have an elite quarterback, and Steeler Nation wants us to hand the ball-off 40 times a game.

I\'m not saying that Arians doesn\'t drive me crazy from time-to-time, especially with his five-wideout sets on 3rd and inches. But, it allows Ben to lead the team. That\'s the way it should be.

Honestly, when an offense puts up 21-30 points a game, they should win. The defense was more of an issue this year.
